Can AI replace a project manager?
Short answer
No. AI replaces the paperwork of the role, not the role. Writing minutes, maintaining requirement lists, chasing actions, keeping a decision log and redrawing the plan are mechanical and can be automated almost entirely. Negotiating scope with a sponsor, deciding what to cut, and taking responsibility for a missed date cannot. In practice a PM using AI spends less time writing and more time deciding.
